International Medical Student Education

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the international student programs at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Gainesville. Our faculty, residents and fellows are proud to participate in the education of future physicians. We provide an excellent broad-based clinical experience at our major teaching hospital, UF Health Gainesville, as well as at other affiliated sites.

Core clerkship rotations in all the major disciplines are available for international students interested in the UF College of Medicine. Elective rotations in the final year of clinical training are available to international students from non-LCME accredited schools.

Can I participate in rotations at UF College of Medicine?

UF College of Medicine only accepts senior year international students from non-Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited schools who have a current and approved affiliation agreement with UF.

Does my school have a current affiliation agreement with UF?

What if my school does not have a current executed agreement?

Email MD-OSA@ufl.edu to request the affiliation template.

How long does it take to get an agreement executed?

Agreements typically take 6-8 weeks for execution; however, sometimes may take longer if the international school requests several changes to the template.

Are there any restrictions?

Yes. The Departments of Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Pathology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Radiology and Surgery do not accept students from non-LCME accredited medical schools.

How many rotations can I request?

You may request up to 4 rotations. Please include preferred dates along with each rotation. After reviewing the 4th Year Course Catalogue you may send your rotations request to Jerell Blackburn at MD-OSA@ufl.edu.

How do I apply?

Prospective international applicants will apply using the How To Apply link below. Additionally, students must complete and return the Application Packet within the How To Apply web page.

How much does it cost?

There will be a nonrefundable application processing fee of $30.00 and a weekly rotation fee of $900.00 per elective. Payment for the rotation must be made no later than 7 days prior to the start date for which you are approved. You are able to pay the weekly rotation fee through the link below.

Is there a dress code?

Students participating in clinical rotations must wear proper business attire, white laboratory coats, and their home school identification badge plus a Gator All-In-One ID badge. On the first day of the rotation, the Senior Electives Coordinator will provide documentation that will enable visiting students to purchase the All-In-One ID badge ($20.00) and parking decal ($35.00 per month).

Does the College of Medicine offer housing?

The UF College of Medicine dos not offer student housing. You will need to make your own housing arrangements for the duration of your stay. Short-term apartment rentals will vary from $600 to $1200 per month, depending upon amenities and proximity to the University.

How can I get to campus?

Gainesville has a regional bus transit system, RTS, that students can ride for free with a Gator1 ID. Our city and University are also very friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. However, it will definitely be to your advantage to have a car rental so that you can move about more easily within the community and visit surrounding attractions.
