second Year

White Coat Ceremony

The first White Coat Ceremony was originated by Dr. Arnold Gold in 1993 at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Such ceremonies now take place at most medical schools in the United States.

SECOND, THIRD, AND FOURTH YEAR

Honors Convocation

The Annual Honors Convocation recognizes second, third, and fourth year students for excellence in the classroom and research laboratory, for exceptional professionalism and humanism in the care of patients, and for outstanding service to the University of Florida and Greater Gainesville communities.

A momentous and career defining moment for graduating medical students as they learn where they have matched for their residency positions while sharing the excitement with friends and family.

Senior Awards Banquet

The Annual Senior Awards Banquet recognizes four years of achievements of the graduating class.

Hippocratic Faculty Award

Each graduating class presents the Hippocratic Award to a faculty member. Congratulations to our 2023 recipient, Dr. Shelley Collins!

Commencement

Commencement celebrates the achievement of our medical students earning their MD degree and marks the beginning of their professional careers. The University of Florida’s first class graduated in 1960 with 40 medical students.  Today, our graduating class is over three times that size, and the College of Medicine now has more than 4,000 alumni.
