UF COM students are required to own a portable personal computer that allows students to perform the following tasks.
- Access and download course files (e.g., documents, presentations, videos, calendars)
- Upload assignment files
- Take quizzes and exams
- Participation in remote educational activities
- Access different browsers
- Interface with applications to fulfill requirements and analyze personal progress (e.g., learning management system, course evaluations, grades)
Personal devices must have the following minimum requirements:

Is my current computer adequate?
Generally, computers need to be replaced every three to five years. If it meets the minimum requirements above, and is in good working condition, it is recommended to replace the unit as soon as you notice issues or as it reaches the end of the timeframe.
What else do I need?
For coursework, the following is recommended.
- Chrome, Edge, Safari
- Microsoft Office – available to UF students
- Adobe Reader
- Published Applications – additional apps available to UF students
- VPN software allows remote connectivity to the university network with encrypted data/information to passwords and sensitive data.
Students participating in research may require additional software as notified by the PI.
